Good Works Initiatives

Through mentorship clinics grounded in character development and capacity-building, service leadership exeriences rooted in service and scholarships for careers in health and healing professions - collectively known as Good Works Initiatives - KDMVP empowers young men in underrepresented communities to thrive academically, personally, and economically.

Young men learn to use their gifts and talents for a greater purpose beyond themselves- helping others, strengthening their communities and changing life trajectories for generations to come.

Every Good Works Initiative is designed to create meaningful impact across three  interconnected  areas: Healthy Men. Healthy Families. Healthy Communities.

 Good Works include:

  • Mentorship Clinics: Guided by professionally trained mentors who share similar lived experiences, young men in grades 5–12 are empowered with the character, confidence, and capacity to become positive difference-makers. Through meaningful discussions and skill-building workshops, participants focus on personal growth, academic goal-setting, decision-making, emotional resilience, healthy coping strategies, and problem-solving. They also build positive relationships with peers and trusted adults for ongoing encouragement, guidance, and support.

  • Leadership Development: Through service-leadership experiences, young men come together with peers, adults, and professionals to engage in real-world problem-solving and hands-on learning while addressing the needs of others in their communities. They develop essential leadership skills, including effective communication, critical thinking, decision-making, collaboration, empathy, and teamwork. Participants are also exposed to helping and health-related career pathways while building valuable relationships and professional networks.

  • Scholarships: KDMVP provides financial support to high school graduates pursuing postsecondary education and careers in the health and healing professions. Scholarships help create pathways for young men to become future physicians, nurses, psychologists, therapists, social workers, counselors, educators, community advocates, and other professionals committed to healing, rebuilding, and empowering lives.
